SPRING-SUMMER-FALL Truckee River Rafting. There is nothing better than spending a warm, summer day in Tahoe rafting down the Truckee River and ending at the River Ranch for lunch and cocktails. River rafting is one of Tahoe's most popular summer attractions, so make your reservations in advance. Golfing. There are numerous golf courses in close proximity. The Coyote Moon is on North Woods Blvd (530-587-0886) with 72 par 7,177-yard, 18 holes course designed by Brad Bell. The Squaw Creek Golf Course (530-581-6637) was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. and is a 6,931-yard, par 71, 18-hole golf course located in Squaw Valley. Old Brockway (530-546-9909) is a 3,318-yard, par 36, 9-hole golf course located in Tahoe's north shore and has consistently been rated one of the top ten 9-hole golf courses in Northern California. Tahoe City Golf Course (530-583-1516) is a 2,555-yard, par 33, 9-hole golf course conveniently located in downtown Tahoe City. The Northstar Golf Course (530-562-2490) is a 6,897-yard, par 72, 18-hole golf course. Water Skiing, Boat, Wave Runner & Jet Ski Rentals. High Sierra Water Ski School (530-583-7417) is conveniently located on Tahoe's west shore. High Sierra offers private water skiing lessons and also rents ski boats and jet skis by the hour. Beach. There is a secluded sand beach just a 5-minute walk from the home. The beach offers a pier and terrific swimming area. Horse Back Riding. Alpine Meadows Stables (530-583-3905) offers guided rides through the Tahoe National Forest daily from June through October. Kayaking. Bliss State Park and Rubicon Point are popular west shore kayaking spots. Tahoe Gear (530-525-5233) is a great place to rent kayaking equipment. Lake Cruises. The Tahoe Gal (530-583-0141) offers scenic west shore cruises that includes tours of Emerald Bay. Don't miss the Sunset Jazz cruise! The Tahoe Queen (530-541-3364) and the M.S. Dixie (775-588-3508) are two very famous Tahoe paddlewheel cruises that offer glass-bottom viewing of the Lake. There are breakfast, lunch, dinner and happy hour cruises available, as well as just general sight-seeing cruises. Parasailing. Parasailing is a very popular way to take in the sites of Tahoe during the summer months. Lake Tahoe Parasailing (530-583-7245) departs from the Tahoe City Marina in downtown Tahoe City. Casinos. The famous South Shore gaming area is an easy scenic drive around Lake Tahoe. South Shore offers several large casinos, including, Caesars Tahoe, Harrah's, and Harvey's. If you prefer a more relaxed gaming environment, the North Shore casinos include: Hyatt Regency, Cal-Neva and the Tahoe Biltmore. Biking. Tahoe offers some of California's best trails for both mountain and road biking. For the avid mountain biker, there are single-track trails winding back into the Tahoe National Forest. For the more casual biker or family bikers, there is a level bike path that runs from Tahoe City down the west shore. On this trail, one can bike along the Truckee River through Tahoe City and down the lake's west shore. One of the most popular bike trips is the 9-mile trip from Tahoma to beautiful Emerald Bay, one of Tahoe's most famous attractions. Homewood Mountain Bike Park (530-525-2992) is just around the corner and offers over 10 miles of lake view trails and a lift to take bikers to the top of the peaks! Tahoe Gear (530-525-5233) is a convenient place to rent bikes. Hiking. There are hundreds of trails and state parks on the west shore that offer captivating views of the lake and hikes back to secluded streams, lakes and ponds! The Tahoe Rim trail was just completed in 2001 and is a scenic 150-mile trail surrounding the lake. The Tahoe Rim Trail can be accessed from multiple points in the Tahoe area. Sugar Pine Point and Meeks Bay are two of the most popular hiking destinations on the west shore. Fishing. There are numerous rivers and trails to secluded lakes in the area that offer some tremendous fishing holes. ATV Tours. There are great ATV trails on the west shore including the famous Rubicon Trail. Tours and rentals can be arranged through Lake Tahoe Adventures (530-577-2940). WINTER Homewood Mountain Resort. Homewood is a great family ski resort located just minutes away from the home. Children under the age of 10 always ski free at Homewood when accompanied by an adult! Homewood also offers value days Mon-Thurs (non-holiday) when adults and juniors can ski all day long for just $25. Homewood offers 1,600 vertical feet and over 1,260 acres of terrain for skiing and snowboarding with amazing lake views. Homewood offers great ski and snowboard lessons for the entire family without a lot of the crowds and lines of the larger resorts. Squaw Valley USA. Squaw Valley boasts over 4,000 acres of skiable terrain. 70% of the terrain is geared for the beginner and intermediate skier, with wide open bowls and carefully groomed runs. Advanced skiers are treated to vast areas left in their pristine state for a true wilderness experience and some of the most challenging terrain in the world. Squaw Valley is a world-famous ski resort offering a complete skiing and snowboarding experience with hundreds of runs, lessons/schools, and state-of-the-art lift system. Squaw also offers other activities such as ice-skating and snow tubing during the winter and mountain biking and hiking during the spring and summer months. Alpine Meadows Ski Resort. Alpine Meadows is a complete ski resort offering great skiing and snowboarding for all levels of expertise. Alpine has many ski and snowboard schools, as well as private lessons. This resort rivals the best ski resorts in the United States. Cross Country Skiing & Snow Shoeing. Sugar Pine Pt. State Park is less than five minutes away from the home and offers some of the best cross country skiing and snow shoeing in all of Tahoe. Sugar Pine has over 20 kilometers of marked cross country and snowshoe trails. Both Homewood Hardware (530-525-6367) and Tahoe Gear (530-525-5233) rent all the equipment one needs to cross country ski or snowshoe! Snow Play. Granlibakken is a perfect place for families to play in the snow. The snow play area offers saucer and sled rentals for just $3. Granlibakken also offers beginner ski and snowboard lessons at a fraction of the cost of the larger resorts. Granlibakken is truly an intimate, family attraction for those looking for some family-fun without the crowds of the large resorts. Snowmobiling. Many of Tahoe's best ridges and peaks offer great snowmobile spots with amazing lake views. Tahoe Snowmobile Adventures offers groomed tracks with spectacular lake views in a park-like setting. |
